2007 Perfecta Merlot

PERFECTA WINERY

The Perfecta Napa Valley Merlot is a blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Syrah, sourced from prestige

vineyards in Oakville and Napa. The grapes were grown using sustainable farming practices,

utilizing cover crops, organic pest control systems, and biodynamic techniques. The majority of

the fruit was sourced from vineyards that have been farmed by my family for over a decade. The

2007 vintage delivered a cool summer, and no heat spikes during September, allowing longer

hang time to achieve proper maturity. The grapes were amazing. The wine was aged in

American oak for 23 months. The result is a wine that is very Bordeaux in style elegant,

smooth, and beautiful. In a word, Perfecta.

As the former winemaker for Blackstone Winery, Dennis Hill is arguably the Master of Merlot.

This wine showcases the beautiful power of Merlots bright fruit and layered flavors, and blends

a touch of Syrah to enhance the weight and mouthfeel for accessibility. The grapes were

harvested and crushed near our winery which minimized transport. Skin contact was carefully

monitored to maximize color concentration without adding harshness and astringency to the

wine. The wine was aged separately through a 23 month oak American program, and blended 5

months before bottling.

This gorgeous Merlot opens with an elegant bouquet of berry fruit and cherry pie. The aromatic

promise is followed by silky, smooth flavors of abundant strawberry, black cherry, and berry

fruit, spice, and hints of toffee. the style is structured, but elegant, and a true expression of

Napa Valley. I recommend pairing this wine with a wide range of beef and pork dishes, as well

as red sauces on pastas, grilled vegetables, and cured meats.
